Mom pens post amid 'hardest season' of her life: 'I needed my people today'

A Colorado mother has gone viral after she shared a touching story about how her friends helped her in her time of need.

On Oct. 17, Kimberly Adams, of Fort Collins, shared a black-and-white photo of her two friends on the North Colorado Moms Blog's Facebook page. Along with it, she posted a touching story about how they drove approximately 30 miles to console her during what she described as the "hardest season" of her life.

"I am currently walking through the hardest season of my life, and as Mama's we feel like we've always gotta put on our big girl pants and just muscle through," Adams wrote anonymously. "Never let 'em see you sweat, right? Oh girl...if there's one thing this season has taught me, it's that that sort of lie is terribly dangerous to believe."

That day, Adams wrote that she really needed to just vent and talk to someone. She called a friend, who asked her what she needed. When Adams responded by saying that she didn't want to be alone, her friend told her that she would come visit her.

"Not only did she make the trek from Greeley to Fort Collins, but she picked up another sweet friend along the way," Adams continued. "They picked up lunch, they walked into my house, gave me the biggest hugs, and asked 'What can we do?'"

The two friends proceeded to help clean Adams's house and assured her everything was OK.

"They let me cry, they made me laugh, we listened to music, and most importantly ... I. Wasn't. Alone," Adams wrote.

The Colorado mother was so touched by her friends' kind gesture that she shared the story to remind other mothers that they, too, should never feel as if they've been abandoned.

"Mama, if you're going through a rough season...know that you don't have to do it by yourself," Adams posted. "You don't even have to know what you need — just start by asking to not be alone. I know there is someone in your life who will say to you 'I'm on my way,' if only you'd ask."

The woman's post has since gone viral — as of Monday afternoon, it has been shared over 114,000 times and received over 63,000 reactions.

"I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love this and how relatable it is to my life right now," one person wrote. "You put into words what I have not been able to myself and for that I thank you. I wish you only the very best in this season of your life!"

In a follow-up post, three days later, Adams revealed her identity and wrote that she had actually met her friends through the Facebook group.

"I originally published the post with full intention of remaining anonymous (unless of course you’ve been to my house and recognized my kitchen)," she admitted. "But after seeing the responses pour in, and hearing from so many of you who are walking your own hard road or alongside someone else's, I think it’s important to take another vulnerable step forward!"

In an interview with "Good Morning America," Adams further shared that she is in the process of getting a divorce.

"I certainly didn't sign up to be a part-time mom, so the days I don't have my son are really difficult for me," she said. "This was one of those days. I shared that fact with some of my closest friends, and my phone rang almost instantly. The post itself was born out of the love I felt from the way my friends showed up for me, and not just on that day, but the way they have shown up for me over and over again in this difficult season."

The response to her post has been "a really beautiful thing to witness," she added.

"As moms, we live in a world that is saturated with the 'you can do hard things' message, and we've somehow decided this means that we have to, or should be able to do them all on our own," Adams said. "The act of just showing up is really all that we need. Whether a text checking in, a Facetime call, or literally telling someone, 'I'm on my way," and driving over to their house, we could do a lot more showing up for one another."
