Mom Gives Her Bird a Tiny Microphone and a Show-Stopping Performance Ensues

It's no secret that most birds love to sing, and Darwin - a Ring-Necked Parakeet - is no exception. His mom shared a video clip of him holding a tiny microphone and spittin' out a rap on Friday, January 26th, and it's a must see!

Darwin's mom knows how much he enjoys talking and singing throughout the day, so she thought it would make sense to get him a microphone. The video she shared is pretty short, probably because Darwin doesn't seem to be too impressed with the microphone he's holding. With Dr. Dre's Still D.R.E playing in the background, we see Darwin take center stage and bust out a few rhymes. Make sure to watch till the end for his adorable mic drop!

Darwin's rapping is just too cute! He was more interested in trying to figure out if he could eat the mic instead of using it to sing into! I thought it was cute that in her caption she even gave him his own rapper name, "Lil Seed"...it's fitting for a bird! @Darwin & Sophia commenters all agreed that Darwin's quite an entertainer. Like me, it seemed that everybody's favorite part was the mic drop at the end. @Dragon_Rescue laughed, "That look is priceless when he dropped the mic!" and another commenter added, "I like how he just kept his foot up when he dropped his mic LOL!"

Do Ring-Necked Parakeets Make Good Pets?

There's no doubt that Darwin is a gorgeous bird, but I didn't know much about Ring-Necked Parakeets. Turns out, these birds are one of the Top 10 most talkative parrots out there. They can develop a vocabulary of more than 100 words and are great at mimicking what they see and hear. Like many talking parrots, they are extremely intelligent and enjoy playing with toys and puzzles, and love to learn tricks. They live for up to 30 years, worth considering if you're looking for a pet.

These parrots make great pets because they are affectionate, caring, and very curious. They enjoy being social and being around people. They're fun birds to watch and very entertaining when they want to be. Because they're so social and love attention, this kind of bird wouldn't work for busy families who are away a lot.

There are always pros and cons when it comes to finding the right pet for your family. If you are considering a parrot, an African Grey or an Amazon parrot are worth checking out. They are also fun birds that talk up a storm. Africans tend to be more affectionate, but Amazons are goofballs! My mom and dad got an Amazon when we were kids, and he became part of the family. He's 45 years old now, and lives with my sister. He still recognizes me when I visit and remembers things that I'd forgotten about (he still yells our cat's name from more than 40 years ago!) If you're thinking about getting a parrot, it's a pet I'd highly recommend.
