Molly Ringwald is fueling everyone's nostalgia with her latest appearance, which featured a retro haircut and a vintage gown, to boot. On Thursday night,The Breakfast Club star arrived at the New York City Ballet's Fall Fashion Gala at Lincoln Center with a modern twist on the two throwback trends: a shag haircut and vintage silk.

Ringwald posed at the step-and-repeat in a super-pale, mint green dress with a floor-skimming hemline, a ruched neckline, and a detachable bolero with puffy statement sleeves. Upon first glance, the piece — which she found at Los Angeles neo-vintage boutique Decades — appears to have short sleeves and a draped top, but once Molly removed the coordinating shawl, it became evident that the look was a set. She added a very unexpected pop of pink with her clutch handbag and strappy tie-up stilettos (a subtle nod to ballet ribbons, she told InStyle). Even her lipstick and manicure tied together the Barbiecore details.

The actress's famous red hair was styled choppy shag cut (courtesy of Jayne Matthews), a look that was originated by Jane Fonda in the '70s. Besides the vibrant lip, her glam featured smudged liner and rosy cheeks.

While walking the red carpet, the actress spoke to InStyle about another nostalgic trend that has made it's comeback in the last couple of years: balletcore. In fact, Molly says she loves ballet flats, which are quickly becoming one of the fall's biggest fads. "I'm a big fan," she says. "The Rodarte girls did a beautiful ballet [campaign], I'm all here for it."

Ringwald even approves of one of the more polarizing ballet pieces from the '80s: leg warmers. "I love leg warmers. I remember when Phoebe Cates was on the cover of Seventeen in sweatpants and leg warmers in the '80s, and I have never let them go."
