Model Nathan Westling Comes Out as Transgender

“I can't even imagine going back to how I was before because it's just darkness."

Model Nathan Westling came out as transgender in an interview with CNN Style on Tuesday. Nathan is a mainstay in the modeling industry, having starred in campaigns for Prada, Dior, and Louis Vuitton prior to his transition. He revealed he started taking testosterone six months ago and has plans to get top surgery.

Nathan described his transition process to CNN Style, saying: “It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows in the beginning. My first two months of the transition were tough, and it wasn't until I started to see physical changes that aligned with ... my mental state that I finally woke up and (started) living. I'm happy. I can't even imagine going back to how I was before because it's just darkness."

While he says he isn’t certain what’s next for his career, Nathan shares that the response from major clients and designers has been overwhelmingly positive. "I’m not worried about it,” he said, when asked about his professional future. “I think it's going to be a good change and I'm excited for it. I'm really, really excited."
