Model Maye Musk's Whirlwind Trip to Italy and Spain

Leave it to CoverGirl Maye Musk to make transatlantic travel look easy, breezy, and oh-so-beautiful.

The model — a trailblazer in the industry at 70 years old — recently came back from a week-long trip to Italy and Spain, during which she attended her youngest son Kimbal’s wedding in Costa Brava and overnighted at the Four Seasons Milan before walking in the ultra-glamorous Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda fashion show in Lake Como.

The only thing more jaw-dropping than the destinations: her outfits, which ranged from traveler-chic (for example, a fringed sarong and sunhat) to over-the-top Riviera glamour (a feather-embellished gown and floral headdress). Would you expect anything less from a woman who has been modeling for over 50 years?

We caught up with Maye days after she returned home to Los Angeles to get the scoop on her lavish getaway. Here, she recounts some of her favorite moments exclusively for Travel + Leisure.

“These photos were taken the night of my son Kimbal’s wedding in the Catalonian village of Sant Marti d’Empurie. We had taken a family vacation there years ago, so it has a really special place in our hearts. Here I am posing with the groomsmen before leaving for the big party.”

“The wedding was held at the Greco-Roman ruins of Empúries, which is among the most important archeological sites in Spain. As you can see from the photos, the setting was spectacular — we couldn't have asked for a more incredible backdrop. One thing I really loved about the night is that there were no cellphones allowed. It really encouraged everyone to live in the moment.”

“The wedding party stayed at Hostal Empuries, a lovely old seafront hotel next door to the ruins. I spent the day walking along the shore, swimming in the water, and boat-hopping.”

"After the wedding, it was off to Milan, where I checked in to the Four Seasons. The property is set inside a former 15th-century convent in the heart of the city. I loved exploring the nearby streets and discovering all the beautiful nooks and crannies. And when I stumbled upon this guy, my stylist and I both agreed that I had to take a photo."

“The highlight of my visit to Italy was walking in the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda runway show in Lake Como. The presentation was held at the Teresio Olivelli Park in Tremezzo, but I was staying at the lakefront CastaDiva Resort & Spa in the town of Blevio. So, the night of the event, I was picked up in a boat and whisked off to the venue— but not before snapping a photo with the beautiful Halima Aden, who was also walking in the show.”

“Pre-show, we had champagne and appetizers on the boat, where I ran into so many familiar faces, like Ashley Graham and Lady Kitty Spencer. Here I am with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.”

“Every look at the show was a work of art. My look alone took two hours to create — and there were 109 other models. I've been doing runway for 50 years, but this show was especially magical.”
