Model Grace Elizabeth Loves a Fanny Pack—And This Perfect Red Lipstick—During New York Fashion Week

Red lipstick, a fix-all balm, and more: Runway star Grace Elizabeth offers a peek inside her New York Fashion Week bag.

“I’m from Florida, so this is nothing,” says model Grace Elizabeth as she takes a seat at the Edition Hotel on the second sweltering day of New York Fashion Week. While temperatures are hovering near the three-digit mark, the 21-year-old runway star and newly minted face of Estée Lauder looks the picture of cool and calm in a sleeveless, knee-skimming black dress.

Grace has a back-to-back boxing and jiujitsu workout from earlier this morning to thank in part for her fresh-faced glow. “Even if I can only get 15 minutes in, [exercising] wakes me up and gets me ready for the day,” she notes. But she also gives credit to a trio of secret survival weapons housed inside the structured Giorgio Armani Boite bag that’s tucked beneath her toned arm.

For starters, there’s Big Red cinnamon gum, a surefire pick-me-up for a month’s worth of crack-of-dawn call times and late-night fittings; Aquaphor’s fix-all salve, which she uses for everything—“I mean everything—lips, cuts, bruises, scrapes, rashes . . . ”; and one of Estée Lauder’s new Pure Color Desire Rouge Excess lipsticks, a super-saturated formula with serious pigment payoff.

“I don’t think there’s ever a bad time for a red lip,” says Grace of the shade called Ravage—a high-voltage hue that echoes those she remembers admiring in the glossy magazine pages of her youth. “When you look at any classic [Estée] ad, there’s always the woman in the red lip,” she adds, referring to the long-standing supermodels who have preceded her in the iconic all-American beauty brand’s history—Karen Graham, Carolyn Murphy, and Liya Kebede among them.

It’s certainly the easiest way for an in-demand model to transform in the back of a cab en route to a late-night dinner with friends or designer after-party. And while the exact method for carrying the shade might vary from show to show, city to city—Grace confesses to an extensive bag collection that includes more than a few Fendi micros and of-the-moment fanny packs—one thing almost certainly won’t. Of a bolt of bright crimson lip color, she says, “It’s something I feel confident and comfortable in.”
