This model got an eyeball tattoo, and now she may go blind

Tattoos and piercings can be a risky business in general. Can you trust that the artist is experienced enough to do a good job? Is the needle clean? With a bit of homework, though, people tend to be okay. But getting a tattoo on your eyeball? That’s a completely different story.

And one model recently found out the hard way just how insanely dangerous it is to get your sclera (the white part of your eye) tattooed. Seriously, this story is giving us chills.

24-year-old Catt Gallinger of Ottawa, Canada, claims that she knew something wasn’t quite right immediately after the tattooing.

She went to the hospital when she noticed that her eye was leaking purple ink, she explained on social media. They doctors gave her antibiotics, which caused her eye to swell. She was then given steroid drops, but, as of now, the doctors still aren’t sure if she will lose her vision or not.

Gallinger explains, “This was caused by undiluted ink, over injection, not enough/smaller injections sights. There are multiple people who can attest that my aftercare was good and any other part of what I am saying.”

We are cringing. Injections. In. Your. Eye. Dying.

Gallinger explained on Facebook that the infection is still raging and that she will have to have surgery within a few days. Despite the severity of the infection, she can still see for now. “My mental health is holding pretty strong today, so I’m going to keep fighting.”

She does not recommend anyone try this procedure without serious research.

“There is hemorrhage and sclera tearing from the size of needle used, depth and amount if ink. They are also concerned that the equipment was not sterile and that there is an infection stuck in with the excess ink. People, please, don’t make my mistake. Please.”
