How Model Georgia Fowler Is Finding Joy in Face Masks and Board Games

For our June/July issue’s Where the Heart Is portfolio, celebrities and beauty pros share portraits and thoughts while staying at home during the pandemic. Georgia Fowler (above, right) is with her boyfriend, sister Kate Fowler (above, center), and her two nieces including Saachi (above, left).

As told to Dianna Mazzone.

I live in New York, and a few of my modeling jobs there were postponed [when news of COVID-19 was starting to break]. But I had a job option in Australia, so I figured I’d take it, then come back. I came to Sydney with a carry-on bag thinking I was going to be here for five days — but I imagine it will be many, many months.

I’m just grateful to be here with my boyfriend, my sister, and her two young kids [who live here]. It definitely makes time go faster for me because I can just kill hours playing with the kids. Over the past 10 years, I've gotten used to traveling and being on a different continent almost every week, so it's pretty weird for me to even be in one country for this long, let alone in the house. [But I realize now] I was feeling pretty burnt out. So I’m just trying to use this time to rest and be with my family.

Before the kids wake up, I try to get out and go for a 20-minute walk to get some fresh air. And then in the afternoons, we get the kids outside and play in the backyard. Luckily it’s summer here, so that makes it a little easier than being totally cooped up in the rain. In the evenings, I try to do a workout, whether it’s on the floor of my bedroom or at the park at the end of the street — I’ll do some burpees and hill sprints.

We’re appreciating the little things, cooking really beautiful meals for us to enjoy together, playing with the girls, and when they’re in bed, enjoying a board game with a glass of red and [calling it] an early night. I’m lucky that I can dive into my sister's cabinets and steal all of her [beauty] products too. We do face masks a couple of times a week, and the kids really love it. We put a little dab on their noses.
