Missoni RTW Fall 2021

Missoni has been embracing a new attitude in recent seasons: younger, more urban and definitely cool.

With the fall 2021 lineup, creative director Angela Missoni amplified the message with a collection exuding streetwise and sporty vibes.

While in the past the brand mainly relied on layering, chromatic clashes and bold graphics, now it seems to be focusing more on versatile items to be mixed and matched with a free-spirited attitude.

Knitwear still reigned. It included hoodies featuring drawstrings inspired by hiking ropes; maxi caftans to wear with matching flared pants; as well as a range of cycling and running shorts — sometimes paired with oversize cardigan. All of this fed the dynamic, energetic vibe of the collection.

The brand’s signature multicolor patterns were juxtaposed with solid tones and rich textures. Cue lightweight culottes worn with suede boots or a great shearling bomber. When she played with colorblocking, Missoni kept it soft and delicate, as shown by a ribbed dress worked in dégradé shades of pink and terracotta.

A quilted leather jacket and of a pair of trousers, topped with a great vertical striped coat, exemplified the cool and young metropolitan look. The same attitude also influenced the eveningwear, all in uncomplicated, airy silhouettes. It included knitted maxidresses and pajama sets crafted from lurex or from a sequined yarn with a shimmering effect.

Along with the fall 2021 look book images shot amid concrete constructions and glass skyscrapers, Missoni wanted to celebrate the brand’s new image with a short video, shot by Lorenzo Gironi at Milan’s Forum di Assago indoor sport arena. Portraying a group of young woman at the end of 2021, the video envisions a new normality with a return to social relations and interactions. In the video, the models sport outfits from the last four collections Missoni designed.

“I mixed and matched pieces from different seasons to highlight the concept of wardrobe, since Missoni delivers items that are conceived to last, accompanying every woman in her life and becoming part of her memories,” Missoni commented, announcing her wish to transcend seasons and trends.
