"Glamorous" Star Miss Benny Writes Heartfelt Letter Announcing Her Transition: "My Pronouns Are She/Her"
Netflix is closing out Pride month with the release of an all-new comedy series, Glamorous. The show follows Marco Mejia, a gender non-conforming person who feels like they're at a stand-still until they land a major job working for legendary makeup mogul, Madolyn Addison (who's played by none other than Sex and the City's Kim Cattrall). The job not only acts as Marco's big break in the beauty industry but a vehicle for them to figure out who they are and what their queerness means to them.

Miss Benny, previously known as Ben J. Pierce, is a trans woman who uses she/her pronouns. On June 26, the actress made the announcement on Instagram, writing, "thank u @time for letting me write about my transition for the first time. 🦋 my pronouns are she/her. i am overwhelmed with hard-earned joy. happy pride 🤍."
She penned a heartfelt letter for Time where she publicly spoke about her transition for the first time."The gap is quickly closing between now and June 22: the day that my television series Glamorous will come out on Netflix," she wrote in Spring 2023. "And along with it, I too will come out as the transgender woman I've been privately living as for the last few years."
"I’m a proud person, but admittedly it’s still a bit daunting to say those words publicly. To list the reasons why could sway 'heavy,' and even 'depressing as hell,' so in an effort to keep it light and tight… let’s just say I’m one of those girls who grew up in a religious Texas household where queerness was totally not the vibe," she continued, outlining her experience as a trans woman navigating her identity while chasing her dream of becoming an actress.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress opened up about her recent role as Marco on the Netflix series and how she relates to the character.
"There are so many unique challenges you face as somebody who is gender-nonconforming, specifically when you're assigned male at birth and you present very feminine," they told the outlet of Marco. "Almost every single character on the show is a different shade of queer. I hope that people will watch the show and want to give more opportunities to people like me and people like the rest of the cast because we had so much fun making it. It's just such a good time."
Benny is originally from Texas
The Hollywood Reporter's recent profile on the actor revealed that they grew up in Denton, Texas before moving to LA to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
