A New Miracle Treatment for Under-Eyes
Popsicles, Coca-Cola, DNA, and much to Carrie Bradshaw's chagrin, the Post-it note, are all discoveries made by accident. The newest addition to the list of serendipitous success stories: XAF5. It sounds like a dope new addition to the Star Wars make-up line, and although its not, it may be just as magical. XAF5 is a glaucoma medication (like Latisse) turned eye-bag buster.
Eye bags can come from genes, sleep deprivation, sun, age, sodium-rich foods, or allergies. Regardless, they blow up our beauty spot. Previously, surgical treatments such as the blepharoplasty (eye lift), were the only legit option in the battle of the eye baggage. But when patients being treated with this medication for glaucoma began to notice diminishing fat pads under the eyes, a star was born. Scientists packaged it to offer up a bleph in a bottle.
"When study participants applied the XAF5 ointment once a day for 10 weeks, they saw significant improvement in the appearance of their eyelids and overall facial attractiveness," says Deanne Robinson, MD, clinical instructor of dermatology at Yale University School of Medicine. The medication binds to fat cells, and makes them spew out their contents, thereby deflating, she adds. It also prevents new fat cells from forming. Discontinuation of XAF5 reverses results. Maybe more importantly, the makers of the product say that there is promise for use on stomach and chin fat. Although FDA approval is pending, Jeff Dover, MD, clinical professor of dermatology at Yale University School of Medicine, notes that these early results are compelling and provide a very exciting opportunity in the world of aesthetic medicine.
When testing is complete, the miracle cream will be by prescription only, for once a day usage at home.
