Minnesota's Wild Mountain Closes After 140 Day Season

After 140 operating days, Minnesota's Wild Mountain called it quits for the season yesterday, March 17th.

The resort recapped the 2023-2024 season in a recent Instagram post.

"The 2023/24 winter season is in the books. Not gonna lie – it wasn't the easiest of seasons. (lookin' at you Ma Nature) But, y'all made the best of it," Wild Mountain wrote on Instagram.

It's true—this winter has proven tricky for Midwest ski areas.

Earlier this month, MPRNews proclaimed that most of Minnesota saw its warmest meteorological winter on record. Snow, too, was an issue. An article published by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources noted that most regions in the state had seen 50% less snowfall than usual by the end of February, calling the winter of 2023-2024 "lost."

While this season was historically tough, dealing with the weather has always been part of running a ski resort. And running said operation requires everyone to chip in—a fact not lost on Wild Mountain.

"Regardless if they were behind a grill, behind a desk or behind a snow gun – our 63rd season wouldn't be possible without their efforts," Wild Mountain wrote.

The ski area also explained that it's serving up one more opportunity to get on the slopes: Saturday, April 6th, will see the Shaka Brah Big Air & BBQ event, a freestyle competition.

Food and drinks are on the house, and registration to compete is $10. Sounds like an excellent opportunity to give the ski season the farewell it deserves.
