Minecraft Could Be Getting a Native PS5 Version

A fresh leak suggests that PlayStation 5 owners could be getting a native PS5 version of Minecraft very soon.

Earlier on Friday, Reddit users spotted title IDs and files for the PS5 version on the PSN backend.

The PlayStation Game Size Twitter/X account, known for accurately leaking upcoming releases in the past, later posted a "confirmation" of the prior leaks.

The new cover image and IDs suggest that a native PS5 version is likely being prepared for launch in the store.

Right now, Minecraft is only playable on PS5 through its PS4 version thanks to backward compatibility. This means the game still does not support 4K resolution and other features, such as ray tracing and higher framerate.

Minecraft fans on PS5 are still waiting for a version of the game that takes advantage of the more powerful current-gen console. Back in December 2023, the Xbox version received an update adding 4K support for Xbox Series X|S consoles.

As there is no official confirmation about a PS5 version of Minecraft, it is still unclear when it may launch and what new features it would add.

If the upgrade is similar to what Xbox Series X|S users already have, we should expect it to run at 4K resolution and 60fps.

Some fans on Reddit would also like to see PSVR2 support added, but given the headset's disappointing sales and Sony's decision to pause PSVR2 production, this seems unlikely.
