Minecraft has now garnered itself the most popular video game of all time. Hitting 15 years next year, the game has now sold over 300 million copies, continuing to exceed expectations.

During a Minecraft Live event, Mojang Studios shared the news in tandem with new features set to arrive in the game. To put into perspective the success of Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V sold over 185 million copies, not even a close second. The game released in 2013 while Minecraft surpassed 200 million copies in 2020 with a 2011 official release. The new features fans can gear up for with Minecraft include a trial chamber that include traps and mobs that can come after you from a series of rooms and corridors. Head of Mojang Studios Helen Chiang said, "As we approach the 15th anniversary, Minecraft remains one of the best-selling games of all time with over 300 million copies sold. [It's] a milestone no one could have dreamed of when we were all placing our first blocks."

Beating out second place by over 100 million copies, it appears that the game is not going to stop growing anytime soon. With the new features, the game will also allow players to vote on which new creature can be added to the game. The game is popular amongst a wide range of demographics and can be played in survival or creative mode for players to test their resilience or simply just use their imagination to build with the virtual infinite lego set.
