Don't let a pandemic keep you from looking and feeling fabulous — Mindy Kaling shows you how

If you're a sentient being who loves quality (i.e., hilarious) television comedy, chances are Mindy Kaling's been an important person in your life. Over nine blockbuster seasons on The Office, her alter ego, Kelli Kapoor, became the exasperating coworker/friend we never had but always loved, even when she was endlessly obsessing over Ryan. (Fun fact: Kaling also made history as the first woman on the show's writing staff.) We stayed smitten as she took center stage for The Mindy Project and joined the supergroup ensemble of heisters in 2018's Ocean's Eight, and we can't wait to see (actually, hear) her this summer in the animated series Monsters at Work, which picks up six months after the shenanigans of the blockbuster film Monsters Inc.—even though we're full-on adults.

Somehow Kaling found time amidst all this to pen not one, but two smash memoirs, 2012's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and 2016's Why Not Me? (both perfect beach reads, btw). So when she took the time to tip us off to her fave quarantine products, well, we were all ears.

Foam Roller

Many things went on hiatus during the pandemic; stress and stiffness was not one of them. "One of my obsessions has been the mighty foam roller," says Kaling. "Since you couldn't get massages for a long time, I could kind of relieve that desire by foam-rolling myself." Rolling helps loosen fascia—the thin sheath wrapped around muscles: "If I was out walking or going for a run, it just made it so that I could exercise for that much longer."

With summertime, and an end(ish) to the pandemic, approaching, any opportunity to hang at the beach or pool seems thrilling. With all the excitement, it's easy to forget how essential sun protection is. Kaling's found sleek salvation in this Supergoop product. "For a lot of women who have darker complexions, finding a sunscreen that does not feel chalky and won't pill under your makeup and make you seem ashy, this is perfect," she testifies. "It goes on so smoothly and it's a great primer for makeup. I'm obsessed."

Sometimes part of keeping fit is tricking ourselves into thinking that we actually want to work out. Kaling gets it, and employs this "favorite obsession" into a carrot-and-stick rationale. "When I don't really feel like working out, I just think about the fact that after I do it I can reward myself with a self-massage with the Theragun," she explains, smiling. "When I'm using it my daughter will come into the gym and be, like, 'What are you doing?' And I'll be, like, 'Get out — I'm using my Theragun!'"

"One other thing I've been obsessed with is Tory Sport workout clothes," says Kaling. That's the line by designer Tory Burch, whose spandex-and-nylon leggings provide a way for Kaling to be comfy on the couch, stylish during a run and professionally camera-ready. "Since everyone kind of ditched their more formal clothes for more comfy athleisure-wear, her stuff is great for workouts but also conference calls. It's just like a really chic way to look put-together that is super comfortable."

Yes, we've noticed that Kaling's quarantine obsessions have a distinctive fitness theme—super-inspiring as we approach summer. One more favorite is her fitness drink. Packed with all kinds of healthful goodies and available in two yummy flavors (Orange Raspberry and Lemon Blackberry), Propel Immune Support is her go-to before, during and after workouts. Kaling is also a paid spokesperson for the brand."I love that it's the easiest way to get Vitamin C and zinc, and to replenish electrolytes and just keep hydrated."
