Mindy Kaling Gives Birth
Between A Wrinkle in Time and Ocean’s 8, 2018 was already going to be a big year for Mindy Kaling.
But now Kaling will be kicking off the new year with an even more exciting gig: The actress welcomed her first child, daughter Katherine Kaling, on December 15, E! News reports.
The Office alum confirmed she was expecting in August in an interview with Today’s Willie Geist, where she revealed that her Wrinkle in Time costar, Oprah Winfrey, had technically been the first to share her news. (In Oprah's defense, Kaling says she didn’t know that Kaling hadn't yet confirmed she was expecting.)
"At first it was like, 'OK, if anyone was going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person,'" she explained to Ellen DeGeneres in October. "You can't complain that much about it. You also can't be like, 'Hey, Oprah, zip it.' Because she's almost like a religious figure."
Back in September, her Mindy Project costar Ed Weeks told reporters how fitting it was that Kaling should be expecting a baby girl.
The Mindy Project, which aired its final episode November 14, "started as a tribute to her mother, who very sadly passed away just as the show [was] being picked up," Weeks told Us Weekly. “And it ends with her having a daughter of her own ... I mean Jesus, life! It makes some very interesting and beautiful patterns sometimes."
