The comedy goddesses have responded to our prayers! On January 16th, NBC announced its new Peacock streaming service will feature shows by Mindy Kaling and Amy Poehler, so of course, it’s going to be our favorite new subscription.
According to Deadline, both are developing comedies, which are scheduled to launch in April. But that’s not all: Peacock will also house some of the TV series they’ve starred in, including The Office, Parks and Recreation, and The Mindy Project. When it comes to the new shows, though, Kaling and Poehler will be behind the camera. And they’ll be joined by new shows from Rashida Jones and Tina Fey.
Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Rashida Jones all have comedies on the same streaming service? How many times can we subscribe?
The network describes Poehler’s Division One as a “coming-of-age comedy about an underdog women’s collegiate soccer team that gets a new female coach—a former professional soccer player who’s fallen from grace—and must decide whether or not they’re going to take the risk of trying to be great.”
As for Kaling, she’s executive producing Expecting, which will center on a “fiercely independent but perpetually single music manager” named Ellie who “has always wanted a family but never found a man worthy of the role of “father.” But after turning 39 years old, she asks her gay best friend to be her sperm donor. Kaling herself is a single, 40-year-old mother, and we can’t wait to see what she brings to the show.
Tina Fey will produce Girls5Eva, a series about a one-hit-wonder girl group from the ’90s “who reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot.” This sounds iconic.
Then, there’s Rashida Jones, who’s creating a show called Straight Talk that “examines what happens when two opposing ideologies are forced into an odd coupling. The main characters will be challenged by one another, making the moral lines at which they once stood harder to define.”

Other series that are currently in development include MacGruber, The Adventure Zone, and Clean Slake, which is co-written by Orange Is the New Black‘s Laverne Cox who will star as “proud, trans woman, Desiree.” The previously announced Saved by the Bell reboot is also headed to Peacock after it launches later this year.
Additionally, NBC announced a new anthology drama series, whose first installment, Hatching Twitter, is about the meteoric rise of the tech company.
The new streaming service will also feature current NBC shows, including 30 Rock, Law & Order, Will & Grace, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Keeping Up With the Kardashians, as well as over 600 movies from the Universal Pictures library.
Peacock launches everywhere July 15th, and you better believe we’ll be ready to stream.
