From Town & Country

It's been a long time since Mindhunter's first season debuted in October 2017. Thankfully, the wait for more serial killer content is almost over. Here's what we know about Mindhunter's upcoming second season.

The first trailer teases appearances by Charles Manson, Son of Sam, and the BTK Killer.

Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) are back talking to serial killer Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton), seeking his advice about how to catch a murderer. Meanwhile, blink-and-you'll-miss-it glimpses of what's in store for the season flash onscreen. Watch the preview in full above.

The core of the cast is returning.

Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv (Dr. Wendy Carr) are all on board for another season. Cameron Britton, whose chilling turn as Ed Kemper was praised by critics, was cagey about his return—but it's clear from the trailer that he'll be back.

Expect some new murderers.

David Fincher, the series's co-creator, has confirmed that the Atlanta child murders will feature largely in the season's plot. "You could probably do three seasons on the Atlanta Child Murders," Fincher said on KCRW’s "The Treatment" podcast. "It’s a huge and sweeping and tragic story. We couldn’t do it justice in the background of our nine hours. We had to choose to dramatize. … [The FBI] are the last guys in, they’re trying to help out something that has its own momentum and politics. It’s a divided battlefield. They’re coming in to throw this federal umbrella over everything to make everyone feel OK about sharing information."

Last year, Collider broke the news that actor Damon Herriman was cast as Charles Manson—a role he'll also be playing Manson in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. For what it's worth, Collider reported that he was cast on Mindhunter first.

It'll be a little shorter than the first season.

Whereas Mindhunter's first run consisted of ten episodes, its second will only contain eight.

Mindhunter is set to return for its second season on August 16, 2019.
