Mindhunter fans rejoice - it might be set for a third season.

That’s according to Holt McCallany, who plays FBI agent Bill Tench in the currently cancelled spy drama.

Speaking with Awards Daily, McCallany says he’s heard rumors it’s on director David Fincher’s mind.

“I’ve heard that David’s thought about it,” he said. “I’m not saying it’s going to come back. But what I am saying is that if it comes back, I’m coming back with it. You can take that to the bank, but it’ll depend on what David wants to do. It’s been a few years now, so it’s probably unlikely, but just even that he would think about it is a hopeful sign.”

Netflix

Mindhunter originally aired on Netflix in 2017. Based on John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker’s 1995 true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, it charts the historic foundation of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit, created by two agents who travel America interviewing notorious serial killers.

Netflix opted to shelve the show after its second season in 2019. Years later, in February 2023, Fincher offered a reason, saying “it’s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment.”

If Netflix does reverse course, at least McCallany is on board.

You won't watch it without a fight, however, as Netflix axes ad-free subscription.
