Drinking mindfully can help you keep a balanced relationship with alcohol. Enter this primer from WH advisors Robin Berzin, MD, the founder and CEO of Parsley Health, and integrative physician Frank Lipman, MD, founder of the Eleven Eleven Wellness Center.

Explore Your Motives ➔ An occasional drink to help you chill out is okay, but if it’s your only stress-release valve, you might want to try seeking out healthier options (like yoga!).

Keep a Drink Diary ➔ Track your digestion, mood, sleep, skin, and focus on a daily basis, and your alcohol intake as well. The results may surprise you-and can help you decide when to imbibe (or not) in future situations.

Meditate Daily ➔ Practicing mindfulness in other parts of your life can make mindful drinking easier, says Dr. Berzin. Aim for five minutes of daily Zen.

BTW, sober living is trending!

Seriously, booze-free bars are popping up more and more these days-proof that you don't need alcohol to grab a drink and catch up with some friends. So feel free to replace your marg with this refreshing berry ginger lemonade mocktail from WH advisor Keri Glassman, RD, founder of Nutritious Life: Blend ½ cup strawberries, 6 raspberries, ¼ inch peeled ginger (it’s loaded with anti-inflammatory antioxidants!), juice of ½ lime, 1 tablespoon honey, and 2 mint leaves. Pour into glasses with ice and add ½ cup soda water. Serves 2.
