From getting real about her pregnancy struggles to explaining her decision to get a tummy tuck, Good Bones star Mina Starsiak Hawk has always been very candid with fans. On Tuesday, spurred by an Instagram follower’s question, the mom-of-two opened up about the growth her daughter, Charlotte (or Charlie), has on her forehead.

The conversation around Charlie started after Mina shared a cute snap of her daughter to Instagram. In the photo, the six-month-old’s hair was pulled back, making the growth especially visible. A follower messaged her to learn more about it. Later, a screenshot of the conversation was posted on Mina’s Instagram Story. “Not trying to be rude but genuinely curious about what’s on her forehead?” the fan’s message read followed by a few more questions regarding its development.

In her response, Mina revealed that her daughter has a hemangioma. “A lot of people call them strawberries,” she wrote, adding that “it typically will grow larger for the first year [and] then start to shrink.” She also added some additional text to the Instagram Story, noting: “I get asked about this a lot.”

According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a hemangioma is a noncancerous tumor made up of blood vessels. Most of them pop up on the surface of the skin or just beneath it, and they often appear on the face or neck, like Charlie’s. These growths often occur in children; sometimes it’s there at birth, or it can develop within the first few weeks or months of life.

A hemangioma doesn’t usually stir up any serious trouble and just goes away on its own, but sometimes people choose to treat it depending on where the mark appears and how it progresses over time.

In another exchange, Mina connected with a fan who also has a daughter with a hemangioma. “To see someone on such a large social media platform let it shine and not try to hide it makes this picture even better,” the fan wrote. “Thank you for letting her be her.”

Mina also shared this message on her Instagram Story. “And THIS is why I deal with all the dumb comments,” she wrote. “To the people who need to hear it or see it, they get it.”
