Millie Bobby Brown on the Possibility of “Enola Holmes 3”

Millie Bobby Brown returned to her sleuthing skills in Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2, inspired by the YA mystery book series by author Nancy Springer. The sequel premiered on the streaming giant on November 4, and Enola — the younger sister of quick-witted detective Sherlock Holmes — immediately springs into action with her new detective agency. After a frustrating start, Enola takes on her first case to find a missing girl, who disappeared after being accused of thievery.

Enola Holmes 2 debuted as the number one movie in the United States during its premiere week, and fans are already wondering if there will be a third film in the franchise. Luckily, we’re here to crack the case. Below, we investigate all the details we know so far about a potential Enola Holmes 3.

Is Enola Holmes 3 happening?

Netflix has not yet confirmed a third Enola Holmes film.

However, on November 2, MBB shared her hopes for another installment. “I would love to be a part of another one,” the actress told Screen Rant. “I would love to see [Enola Holmes] do more cases, be put under pressure, be put in crazy situations, make her feel vulnerable again. I absolutely love seeing her back at work.”

What would Enola Holmes 3 be about?

The Enola Holmes films are based on the book series by Nancy Springer, but they more so draw inspiration from the novels than direct storylines. So even though there is a third book in the series (titled The Case of the Bizarre Bouquets), it’s a bit of a mystery of what the third film would be about.

However, the Enola Holmes 2 ending set up some intriguing plot details for a threequel. In the end, Enola and Lord Tewkesbury establish their relationship and their love for one another, while a post-credits scene introduces Dr. John Watson. This unexpected scene seems to suggest that a third film could be in the works.

Who would star in Enola Holmes 3?

Of course, Millie Bobby Brown would return as the titular detective. It’s also likely that Henry Cavill would return as her brother Sherlock Holmes, as would Helena Bonham Carter as her mother Eudoria Holmes, Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Susan Wokoma as Edith, Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade, Himesh Patel as Dr. Watson, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Moriarty.

ICYMI, Sam Claflin starred in the first Enola Holmes film as Enola and Sherlock’s brother, Mycroft Holmes. He didn’t make an appearance in the sequel, but we *still* hope to see his return in a third film.

“We were very sorry that Sam couldn't be in this one. If there was a future one we would love to have him back,” director Harry Bradbeer told Collider in a November 2022 interview.

When would Enola Holmes 2 come out?

Since the film hasn’t been confirmed, it’s hard to tell when it’d be released. However, we do know that the first Enola Holmes movie debuted in September 2020 and the sequel premiered in November 2022. Following this schedule, it’s possible that a third film would be released in the second half of 2024.
