Millie Bobby Brown is opening up about her time of “healing” and how she turned pain into power after an “unhealthy situation” with TikToker Hunter Ecimovic.

The two were never confirmed to be in a relationship, but in a new interview with Allure, the Stranger Things star shared that she cut ties with the social media personality in January 2021.

“I felt very vulnerable,” she said. “Also, no one on the [Stranger Things] set knew I was going through this. So it was kind of nice to be able to just deal with that myself and no one else knew. Then it was harder when the whole world knew.”

In July, about six months after Millie walked away from Hunter, he went on Instagram Live and said cruel, offensive comments about the actress and made harmful claims about their previous alleged relationship, per The Los Angeles Times. At this time, Millie was 17 and Hunter was 21. She was already dating her current boyfriend, Jake Bongiovi.

“It was a year of healing,” she told Allure, looking back on the situation. “When you get publicly humiliated this way, I felt so out of control and powerless. Walking away and knowing that I’m worth everything and this person didn’t take anything from me, it felt very empowering. It felt like my life had finally turned a page and that I actually had ended a chapter that felt so f***ing long.”

“Ultimately, all I wanted to do within my career is help young girls and young people out there know that I, too, go through things,” she added. “I’m not this perfect person that is selling skincare products and [who is] in Stranger Things. I absolutely have made wrong decisions.”

After Hunter’s Instagram Live, Millie’s team released a statement to TMZ, condemning his remarks.

“Mr. Ecimovic’s remarks on social media are not only dishonest, but also are irresponsible, offensive and hateful. Instead of engaging in a public discourse with him through the press or on social media, we are taking action to ensure that he stops this behavior once and for all.”
