If anyone needs a pair of sunglasses right now, it’s Millie Bobby Brown. The 17-year-old has inspired so much public devotion, her every TikTok cameo inspires a rumor mill about her friends and future. Recently, she had to issue a gentle apology to fans for… checks notes… growing up. (Wait until they see her legally driving a car to the Stranger Things set.)

But while most teens have some experience behind the wheel, Brown is one of the few with her own accessories line. Created in partnership with Vogue Eyewear, the 22-piece collection isn’t just to help MBB shield herself from the paparazzi. “Style is something that’s personal to me, you know?” she says. “Everyone knows who I am because of the characters I play. And I love those characters, but I also want to dress up as me. Vogue Eyewear really let me do that!”

Here’s what else the star of Godzilla vs. Other Monsters (wait, that’s not the name?) wants you to know about her sunglasses, her social media usage, and those very persistent rumors about Deadpool and Eleven…

Stranger Things is so massive that every piece of info feels like national security. Are you allowed to say where you are right now?

I think so?

Not what the set looks like or which actors you’re filming with…just a basic location?

Yes! Okay, I’m filming Stranger Things—we’re in the middle of shooting right now, and so right now, I’m in Georgia. It’s so lovely here… I have a car and a driver’s license now, which is wonderful. And [barking in the background] and that is my dog, who is here, too. Winnie. [To the dog.] Winnie, I’ve got things to do, places to be. You can’t come with me right now. Sorry! [More barking.] My dog is the best, but she doesn’t always “get” that I’m at work. Anyway.

You just turned 17, and 16 to 17, I remember it being a big leap, style-wise.

Oh yeah.

How has your personal style evolved this year?

Well, it’s an interesting question, because this particular year, my style was put on pause because of quarantine, you know? I was wearing pajamas every day. Now I’m very into high-waisted jeans, crop tops, and a cool jacket and Air Force 1s. I also have chunky black boots that I wear absolutely everywhere. I’m really going for that trendy look now, because I didn’t get to do it for so long! And I think also that nails and nail art are so in right now. Getting cool nail designs are so in.

That must be tough when you show up to Stranger Things, and they’re like, “Eleven can’t have neon tips!”

Ohhhh, it’s so depressing. Because I love love love getting my nails done; it’s one of my favorite things to do. I personally feel like that’s my time to find cool things and join in on the beauty trends. But yeah, while filming, I can’t have any nails at all. Most of my characters don’t. Godzilla vs. Kong, I had army green nails for that, which was nice. But today, I have a mint green tip, which is really exciting—except I have to take it off when we start filming! So sad!

You filmed the Vogue Eyewear campaign with your big brother, Charlie. Why did you want to work with him, specifically?

So something about my brother is, we’re seven years apart. When I was growing up, he was like my best friend. We were so close, compared to me and my sisters, who are ten years apart. And my brother and I, we are polar opposites. I guess I’d say he’s an introvert and I’m very much someone who screams from the rooftops. We’re very different. But he’s so incredibly respectful and understanding. He’s such a good listener. He’s always been my shoulder to cry on. I adore him. When he said he wanted to go into photography, I was so excited to be a part of that journey with him, because he’s been a part of mine for so long. To get to work with him, and bring him along on something I’m doing, was so exciting. He’s so creative. He comes up with the coolest ideas, and he’s my built-in best friend. His honesty is so key. He’ll tell me what he really thinks, which is so important. It’s really grounding to have someone around who’s like, “Maybe don’t do that!”

So you don’t fight? My brother and I are super close, but we disagree a lot.

Are you super close in age? I know that can happen. But with my brother, there’s not really anything to fight about. And because he knows me so well, he can almost vicariously be me—if I’m exhausted, he’ll know what I love and what vibe I want to portray. He’s also just random, in the best way. Like, “Who’s got a rocking chair? Let’s put it in the middle of a field and take pictures!” That random, adventurous vibe is everything I live for and more.

It was very hard to do research for this interview…

[Laughing] Oh no!

Because there seems to be a constant stream of stuff about you on the internet, you know? “Millie Bobby Brown wore pink. Millie Bobby Brown has a secret TikTok. Millie Bobby Brown is running for president!”

[Laughing] No way!

No, not that last one. At least not yet! But how do you decide when to respond to an internet rumor, and when to just leave it alone?

It’s so strange, right?! But you can’t pay attention to every single rumor about you, whether it’s on the internet or in real life, because then you end up living your life for other people’s opinions, and not for yourself… And I’ve been so blessed to be surrounded by such inspirational girls. I meet the coolest fans in Brazil, Australia, Indonesia, you name it… They inspire me to be true to myself, and that’s all I can do. But when I feel like there’s some bad [intel] out there, I’ll say something for sure.

Can I ask you if a few things are true?

Yeah, do it!

Okay. Are you, Millie Bobby Brown, starring in the next Deadpool?

Oh my gosh! The Deadpool stuff is new to me. I’ve never had a conversation about Deadpool, but sure, of course I’d be open to one?!

Are you, Millie Bobby Brown, starring in a Stranger Things sequel about Eleven?

Ahhh, the spinoff thing! I got a text from a really good friend about that, and I’m like, “NO! Where is this information coming from?” [Laughing]

Do you, Millie Bobby Brown, have a fake TikTok account where you secretly post?

Listen, I don’t have a TikTok at all. I do ask myself though, like, “Why do people care?” This is not necessary. We can all have fun on TikTok without thinking there are “secret” accounts out there. I like to learn the dances, absolutely. Who doesn’t? But I don’t want to be a public figure on TikTok! I don’t really belong there, as a public figure. But to be a random person on TikTok? That is so fun. I strive for that.
