Miller High Life Wants to Make Your Home Smell Like a Dive Bar for the Holidays

Hey, someone's bound to love it.

Smell is the sense that is most closely connected to our memories, which is why the scent of freshly baked gingerbread might magically beam you right back to your grandmother’s kitchen, or picking up on a hint of pine sap can remind you of that Christmas when Santa finally brought you a Furby. The good people at Miller High Life apparently want this holiday season to make you think of your favorite dive bar, assuming that place still smells vaguely of cigarette packages.

In honor of its 120th anniversary, the Milwaukee-based beer company is releasing a 2.5-foot light-up neon tree that, yes, has been infused with the scent of sweet tobacco. The Merry High Light, as it’s called, is topped with the Miller High Life “soft cross” logo so your family and friends will know who helped with your holiday decorations (and it also wordlessly answers the question “What’s that smell in here?”). Each glowing green tree is displayed on a tiny tree skirt that matches the striped skirt worn in the brand’s longtime Girl in the Moon logo.

The Merry High Light is exclusively available through Miller High Light's online store, and a limited number of the trees will go on sale on Friday, December 8. Each High Light is priced at $120. If you miss out on the table-top High Lights, Miller High Life is also giving away a full-sized five-foot tall version — complete with a glowing neon Girl in the Moon tree topper — on Friday, December 15. (The beer company says that all of its Merry High Lights will arrive in time for Christmas.)

Over the past few years, Miller High Life has ensured that your holidays are decorated with a bit of dive bar. Last year, it released an "A Christmas Story"-inspired leg lamp beer tower. The three-and-a-half-foot tall plastic leg served two purposes: it could brighten up your space thanks to its three puck lights AND it could liven up your holiday parties, reunions, or funerals by dispensing beer through a spout on its ankle. (Each leg lamp could hold a six-pack's worth of beer.)

"The iconic piece is perfect for a friend who is a holiday movie buff, for a white elephant party to be the talk of the night, or for yourself to toast to making it through another year," a Miller High Life spokesperson said at the time. "It's so indescribably beautiful you'll want to display it in your front room window!"

Miller High Life has also put its own twist on the old-fashioned gingerbread kit, with its Gingerbread Dive Bar kit. The original version debuted in December 2021 and came with ready-to-assemble accessories like a little pool table with pretzel cue sticks and a set of peppermint-topped bar stools. A newer design — which features a High Life sign and a possibly overserved gingerbread patron — is currently available on Miller High Life's online store.

Wait … is it just me, or does it smell a little like grandma's house in here now?
