What milkshake flavor sells the best at Macon chicken chain? It’s not the usual suspects

Zaxby’s, a restaurant best known for its tasty chicken tenders, returned milkshakes to its menu in February — but only in Macon and other parts of Middle Georgia.

The move was part of a limited market test because Zaxby’s hadn’t sold milkshakes in seven years.

The Telegraph reached out to the restaurant chain to see how the test was going and learned which flavor is selling best.

It wasn’t chocolate or vanilla.

“We are happy with how our milkshakes are performing in our market test in Macon, and the positive feedback from customers is encouraging,” a restaurant spokesperson said. “Our refreshed lineup of flavors and the larger size of our milkshakes have been well-received, with the iconic birthday cake milkshake standing out as a crowd-pleaser.”

So does that mean Zaxby’s will add milkshakes to its lineup nationwide? The company is playing coy.

“We will continue to take insights and learnings from the market test to guide our menu strategy as we determine future plans,” the company spokesperson said.

The hand-spun shakes are available in four flavors: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and birthday cake. All come with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles and a cherry on top.

Besides Macon, The Telegraph reported in February that customers reported finding the shakes in surrounding cities including Warner Robins, Dublin and Perry.

Zaxby’s previously said the market test in the “heart of Georgia” grew out of a partnership with Visit Macon to encourage travelers to explore the “hidden gems, iconic landmarks, and storied history” of the city, about 80 miles southeast of Atlanta.

“The return of Zaxby’s milkshakes is an exciting development for Macon,” Mayor Lester Miller said in a press release earlier this year. “We’re thrilled to have Zaxby’s be part of Team Macon-Bibb and showcase our city as the ultimate destination for milkshake lovers.”
