Miley Cyrus’s Mom Tish Cyrus Just Filed for Divorce From Billy Ray Cyrus

Tish Cyrus has filed for divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus, according to People and TMZ. Miley Cyrus’s mom reportedly filed the court documents in Tennessee last week, which revealed she and Billy Ray haven’t lived together in more than two years and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason they broke up.

Together, they share their kids Miley, Noah, and Braison, in addition to Trace and Brandi, who Tish had with her ex-husband Baxter Neal Helson, and Christopher Cody, who Billy Ray had with his ex-girlfriend Kristin Luckey.

Interestingly, this is the third time Billy Ray and Tish have filed for divorce. Billy Ray was the first to file in 2010, and Tish did so three years later in 2013, but both times, the couple worked through it. “We both woke up and realized we love each other and decided we want to stay together. We both went into couples therapy, something we haven’t done in 22 years of being together, and it’s brought us closer together and really opened up our communication in amazing ways,” Billy Ray said in a statement to Us Weekly when they reconciled in 2013.

At the time, Tish also expressed her desire to want to make the relationship work: “I do think that marriage is hard work. And I think a lot of people, when you go through struggles and difficult times, that people throw in the towel a little too easy,” she said. “And I think that any relationship—whether it’s marriage or family, it doesn’t matter—it’s you truly do have to take care of it and nurture and really work hard at relationships. And that’s not always easy, especially in the business that we’re in. So I think it’s a lot just dedication and communication, which I’m not very good at.”

People were quick to assume the couple might be on the rocks again around December 2021, when Billy Ray wasn’t in the family’s annual Christmas picture.

In the photo, Tish posed next to Brandi, Trace, Miley, Braison, and Noah. Also in the pic is Braison’s son, Bear Chance Cyrus, whom he shares with his wife, Stella McBride Cyrus. Miley, Brandi, and Trace also uploaded the same pic to their own Instagram accounts, but there was no sight or mention of Billy Ray. TMZ also reported that the last time the couple was spotted together was back in 2020. 💔
