Dolly Parton doesn't joke around when it comes to hair.

Dolly Parton doesn't take conversations about hair color very lightly.

The country superstar was nothing short of horrified when her goddaughter Miley Cyrus suggested doing something different with her hair ahead of the duo's upcoming New Year's Eve special.

According to Cyrus, 30, she genuinely terrified the 76-year-old icon by even bringing up the idea of dying her hair before the big event.

"I've never seen Dolly actually scared before," the "Midnight Sky" songstress told Today's Hoda Kotb in a new interview published on Thursday, Dec. 29.

Cyrus recalled telling Parton, "'You know, at the end of the year, I was really wanting to do something different—I think I'm gonna dye my hair brunette.'" But the suggestion didn't go over too well with the "9 to 5" singer.

"She acted like I told her the worst news you could imagine," Cyrus told Kotb, who was giggling in the clip.

"She clutched her pearls, gasped, and went back" when she heard the news, according to the Hannah Montana alum's account.

"And she goes, 'You can't do that. You are me,'" Cyrus remembered, adding, "So I'm somehow some extension of Dolly Parton where she looked like I had just given her the worst news you’ve ever heard."

The "Angels Like You" vocalist then confirmed that because of her conversation with her godmother, she would be blonde for the New Year's show.

She then predicted how the pair would be styling their respective looks for the upcoming show, insisting, "We will be either complimenting each other, matching, or being completely the opposite."

Cyrus then quoted Parton, stating, "She says, 'You be you; I'll be me, and together we've got the perfect show."

Miley's New Year's Eve Party special, co-hosted by the legendary duo, will premiere live on Saturday, Dec 21, from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET/PT on NBC and Peacock
