Since Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's separation was announced, many have speculated it was Cyrus who caused the issues in the relationship with her interest in women and her provocative public image. To those people, Hemsworth was just a traditional guy who wanted to settle down and start a family with the girl he's been with on and off for 10 years. But that take is wrong, People's new report made clear today.

The outlet spoke with a friend of the couple, who explained that Hemsworth isn't as mature and polished as his public image may suggest. “Everyone always thinks Miley is problematic and immature and a hardcore partier while he’s this chill surfer dude, but that’s actually [not accurate],” a friend of the couple said. “Liam parties with his friends, and Miley thinks he should’ve grown out of that by now.”

A source close to Cyrus told the outlet that Hemsworth is not the "super easygoing" man his public persona makes him out to be. He's complicated and can get "moody." And he and Cyrus sometimes struggled because of that. “She’s been supportive of him when things get dark, but it’s tough,” the source said. “That’s something that has weighed on Miley and their relationship. He can also lash out at her, and he hates the attention their ups and downs bring.”

Another friend of Cyrus told People that Hemsworth struggled with the unconventional marriage Cyrus wanted. There's a bit of him who wants a housewife. “He loves that she has her own career and focus, but he also wants a wife who cooks and would stay home with the kids,” the friend said.

Cyrus' fling with Brody Jenner's ex-wife Kaitlynn Carter isn't just Cyrus moving on either. Multiple sources told People it's coming partly from a place of pain. “Yes, she’s trying to push Liam’s buttons whether she’ll admit it or not, but she’s hurt," a source said.
