Miley Cyrus' Italy vacation is over, and the reality that her "break" with Liam Hemsworth may be a more serious split now is sinking in, People reports. A source told the outlet that Cyrus isn't broken, but she's not thriving at all. “Miley is okay, but you can tell she isn’t 100 percent happy,” the source said, noting that “she hasn’t talked to Liam” since her rep announced their separation, photos of her and Kaitlynn Carter kissing came out, and she released a song seemingly about him called "Slide Away."

Cyrus really did want to reconcile and being back in their hometown is tough. “They had many happy days together in L.A. and now Liam is not around," the source said. (Hemsworth is in Australia with his family.) "It’s hard for her to be back in L.A. without him. This is not the situation that she wanted. She hoped they could figure things out.”

People added that Carter and Cyrus are in a "romantic friendship" now. They aren't dating.

People's report comes hours after E! reported that Hemsworth is really struggling amid all reports that have out about his breakup, including some alleging that he had issues with partying and drug use. He had originally wanted exactly what Cyrus did: to get back together eventually. Now, that may be harder.

“They were just taking a break, but now it is much more of a serious split," a source said. "They were in a rough spot, and their lifestyles were not aligning. But he had hope they would find a way to reconnect and hadn’t given up. This whole thing has taken things to a new level and really upset him. He was blindsided and extremely hurt by the allegations against him in the press. He had no idea any of this was coming.”

Cyrus isn't about to file for divorce. “Miley has not been talking to an attorney or thinking about divorce,” E!'s source said of her side yesterday. “She wanted the marriage to work and is still willing to give it time. But going through this in the public eye has made things a lot messier and a lot more difficult. She doesn’t really know what to do or what will happen next."
