Miley Cyrus Gave a Moving, Surprise Performance on “Saturday Night Live”
Miley Cyrus found a creative way to make a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live. The weekly NBC series has been going virtual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and Miley joined in on the fun, serving as the musical guest for the Saturday, April 25 episode. However, she didn't let a lack of stage or audience stop her from giving one memorable performance.
Live from her backyard, Miley performed a cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here." For the appearance, she was seated outside next to a fire pit. The ambiance was quite moody, with a red light and the fire serving to accompany Miley, as well as a guitarist. A photo shared to the NBC Saturday Night Live Instagram account gave a more thorough look at Miley's set up, which featured the singer seated on a stool, wearing a dramatic black leather outfit.
The performance was a sparse, intimate moment, which stood in stark contrast to the lively performances often given on Saturday Night Live when typically filmed in front of an audience. Following her appearance, many applauded the singer, with one fan writing, "Miley Cyrus covering Pink Floyd is everything" and "Miley Cyrus is one of the best singers of this generation."
Throughout the social distancing restrictions imposed by COVID-19, Miley has found creative workarounds to reach her fans. Prior to her SNL appearance, she's been busy hosting her own Instagram Live talk show called Bright Minded. The show, in true Miley fashion, has been comedic and colorful, featuring a reunion with Demi Lovato and a honest discussion on sexuality and spirituality with Hailey Bieber.
In addition to her role as part-time social media entertainer, Miley has also acted as a stylist, serving up a makeover on boyfriend Cody Simpson and unveiling a haircut that some likened to the Tiger King mullet. Needless to say, Miley continues just being Miley, even when life is a little different.
