Miley Cyrus Flaunted Her Lower Back Tattoo on Instagram

The Y2K revival shows no signs of slowing down, and Miley Cyrus is bringing back one of its most infamous and subversive trends: The lower back tattoo.

The star has been spotted with some new (to us) ink as of late, and it just so happens to be right in the spot made famous by celebrities like Britney Spears back in the '00s. On June 5, Miley posted some Instagram stories of herself wearing a black bra and thong – which also revealed that she's got a tattoo in that polarizing spot, formerly known as a "tramp stamp."

But when did Miley get her lower back tattoo, and what is it? One Twitter account posted a pic of her in late March sharing the news of the tattoo, but Miley and her favorite tattoo artists haven't shared any close-up pics of the art, so we can't even really tell what exactly her new tattoo is. (But we do know is that it looks good on her!)

She doesn't appear to have the ink in a video posted before her Super Bowl appearance in February, so we'd guess it's a relatively new addition. The last tattoo we saw from Miley was her father Billy Ray's motorcycle on her upper arm, which was done by celebrity favorite tattoo artist Dr. Woo in December 2020.

Miley has quite a collection of tattoos. As noted by Popsugar, she got her first one when she was 17 and has been steadily adding new pieces ever since. She has everything from a portrait of her grandmother to tattoos honoring her dogs to a quote from Theodore Roosevelt decorating her body. When she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, it was revealed that she may have more than 70 tattoos, though even Miley was incredulous when she heard the final tally of her tats.

While we don't know for sure when Miley got her lower back tattoo or what it is, we know one thing for sure: Miley will be sure to share more pics — or perhaps the story behind the new art — when she's ready and we can't wait to hear it.
