The day has finally arrived, Miley Cyrus dropped the official video for her song 'Jaded' last night (16th May) and it's truly safe to say it's just Miley's world and we're all living in it. Whilst fans have been utterly obsessed with the visuals and iconic looks, many are also theorising there may be a few references to Miley's ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in the vid too.
'Jaded' is the second music video from Miley Cyrus' new album Endless Summer Vacation, with the video for 'Flowers' dropping earlier this year. When 'Flowers' was released back in January many fans thought they could see a few shady references to Liam and it appears it hasn't taken long for the internet to do some deep diving into all the potential 'Jaded' references too.
The music video for 'Jaded' is a departure from Miley's more upbeat earlier video for 'Flowers'. This time 'Jaded' is about a former relationship and sees Miley throughout the video lounging topless on top of white bedsheets, and singing her heart out against a palm tree backdrop.
In case you need a refresher, Miley had a decade long on-off relationship with Liam, which ended in August 2019, after eight months of marriage.
All the alleged Liam Hemsworth references in Miley Cyrus video 'Jaded'
It was released four years after Liam allegedly asked Miley for a divorce
Perhaps one of the biggest references fans think Miley is making about Liam, is by dropping the video on the day he allegedly asked her for a divorce four years ago on 16th May.
One person tweeted: "The music video for 'Jaded; will be released exactly 4 years after Liam Hemsworth asked Miley for divorce (May 16)."
However, it has never been confirmed by either party that this is the day Liam asked for a divorce. The couple were spotted together multiple times in June 2019 and made a red carpet appearance together in late June 2019.
It wasn't until August 2019 that the couple's breakup was confirmed.
She mirrors many previous videos about Liam
The aesthetics for the video were on point, and many fans think they are extremely telling and link back to many previous Miley Cyrus music videos which are about Miley's relationship with Liam.
One person tweeted: "Miley Cyrus parodies old music videos about Liam Hemsworth in new single ‘Jaded’! She references ‘Adore You’, ‘Malibu’, and ‘Slide Away’, ballads about wanting to marry Liam Hemsworth, and to live in Malibu forever with him."
They also shared side by side pictures of 'Jaded' next to 'Adore You', 'Malibu' and 'Slide Away' to highlight the similarities.
In 'Adore You', which is said to be about Liam, Miley lounges around a bed, which she then does in 'Jaded' too.
In many of the side by side frames 'Jaded' does seem to take references from those previous videos, with similar shots of her looking to camera and her dancing. But maybe Miley just has a specific way of performing in her videos?
The 'Malibu' location is reused
The 'Malibu' music video, which is about her life with Liam, was shot on a beach and in a meadow, which many fans think have been reused to shoot 'Jaded'.
One person tweeted: "Miley Cyrus has released a continuation of her 2017 Malibu music video, where she graces the same fields only this time reminiscing a former love who was Jaded."
Whilst it's not an actual continuation of 'Malibu' you could see the argument the locations do look rather similar.
It's worth pointing out neither Miley nor Liam has commented on the speculation 'Jaded' is about their relationship.
Now, if you don't mind us we're going to go rewatch the video one more time (ok maybe 10).
