Miley Cyrus is currently dating Maxx Morando after back-to-back relationships with Cody Simpson, Kaitlynn Carter, and Liam Hemsworth. While she’s moved on from her past love affairs, she doesn’t shy away from admitting how they’ve helped her grow. “I love who I am so much right now that if any of those things [past relationships] hadn’t had happened, I’m not sure that I would have been the same person,” she said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2020. Cyrus's first boyfriend may have been Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey. In a 2015 Entertainment Tonight interview, the actor said he and Cyrus met on the set of Billy Ray Cyrus's show Doc. They became “boyfriend and girlfriend” when she was 7, and he was 9. According to Posey, he only has happy memories with Cyrus, who was his first kiss. “We were so damn young,” he recalled, adding, “I would get excited when we would hold hands.”

Dylan Sprouse

A brief Disney Channel romance that somehow went under the radar: Cyrus reportedly dated The Suite Life of Zack & Cody star Dylan Sprouse. He joked about the day-long romance on a 2008 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. “We met at her set, I believe, and we dated. And then Nick Jonas walked by and it was over,” he remembered.

Cyrus and Jonas met on June 11, 2006 at a charity event, as documented in her 2009 memoir Miles To Go. Their romance continued to blossom when the Jonas Brothers opened for her Best of Both Worlds Tour. They didn't confirm their relationship until after their 2007 split, a month before their joint tour was over. In a wide-ranging interview with Seventeen (via People) the next year, Cyrus revealed that the pair "became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met." She explained, "Nick and I loved each other. We still do, but we were in love with each other. For two years he was basically my 24/7. But it was really hard to keep it from people. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn't fun." She added, "Maybe he'll be my best friend for the rest of my life or maybe I'll end up marrying Nick Jonas!" After their romance ended, Cyrus and Jonas expressed their emotions musically. Cyrus wrote "7 Things" about her ex, while Jonas penned "Wedding Bells."

Justin Gaston

Then 16-year-old Cyrus found love with 20-year-old Justin Gaston, a contestant on her dad's reality show Nashville Star. They dated for nine months before splitting in June 2009. Sources told E! at the time that Cyrus's newfound friendship with Jonas may have contributed to the breakup. “She obviously has been hanging out with Nick again a lot, and Justin was cool with it at first, as long as it was just a cool, friendly thing,” the insider said. “She didn't cheat, but I guess Nick was trying to get her back the whole time.” Then, Cyrus jetted to Savannah, Georgia to film The Last Song.

On the set of her Nicholas Sparks romance movie, Cyrus had real-life sparks with her co-star Liam Hemsworth. Rumors of a real-life romance began in January 2010 when People spotted the pair kissing at an airport. They confirmed their relationship later that year and walked The Last Song premiere red carpet as a couple. “I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” Cyrus told People in June 2012, following Hemsworth's May 31 proposal.

Cyrus later candidly confirmed that she lost her virginity to Hemsworth at 16. But by September 2013, E! News reported that they had called it quits. A source said it was “Miley's decision, after coming to grips with Liam being what she believed was less than faithful to her.” The week before, Hemsworth's rep strongly denied rumors that he had been unfaithful. The release of Cyrus's “Wrecking Ball” musically signaled their split.

Mike WiLL Made-It

In the days after Cyrus's breakup with Hemsworth, dating rumors linking her to several high-profile men emerged. Reports about rumored hookups with Jared Leto and Kellan Lutz, both per Us Weekly, have since been dispelled. In November 2014, multiple sources confirmed to Us Weekly that Cyrus was dating “longtime friend” Patrick Schwarzenegger. A source told the outlet, “They have a ton of common friends so they have run in the same circles for years.” Five months later, People reported that the pair had split. According to a source, his schedule as a USC student conflicted with Cyrus's demanding career. “They’re just in two different places in their lives–he’s in college and she’s focused on her music and career,” the insider explained.

Stella Maxwell

Next, Cyrus was linked to model Stella Maxwell after they were spotted kissing in July 2015. But Cyrus wasn't into labeling their fling as a relationship, she told ELLE UK. “I'm very open about it—I'm pansexual,” she said, adding, “I'm 22. I'm going on dates, but I change my style every two weeks, let alone who I'm with.” When asked about Maxwell directly, she said, “Stella’s awesome, but as soon as you hang out with someone, you get labelled as in a relationship. And I’m like, you can’t just assume that everyone I’m sitting at dinner with is a date. It’d be like we’re on a date right now.” Two years later, Cyrus penned the song “She's Not Him,” which many believe is about her discovery that she's still in love with Hemsworth—not Maxwell.

Liam Hemsworth (Again)

In November 2015, about two years after ending their engagement, the pair sparked reconciliation rumors when Cyrus helped Hemsworth adopt a dog. At the start of 2016, Cyrus was spotted wearing her Neil Lane engagement ring again. People officially reported that the couple was back together on January 21. “Miley is beyond happy to be engaged to Liam again,” a Cyrus source told the outlet. “It might seem sudden, but they have been very close for the past few months.” In November 2018, the couple shared heartache after damage to their Malibu home following the California wildfires. A source told People that the couple originally intended to wed in their Malibu home. Instead, they got hitched on December 23 in Cyrus's Tennessee home in front of an intimate group.

Liam Hemsworth

In July 2019, Cyrus gave some revealing quotes to ELLE about her “modern” marriage. “I think it's very confusing to people that I'm married. But my relationship is unique. And I don't know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it's so complex, and modern, and new that I don't think we're in a place where people would get it,” she said, later adding, “I definitely don't fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don't even like that word.” On August 10, Cyrus's rep confirmed the couple was splitting in a statement to People. The confirmation arrived after Cyrus was spotted kissing Kaitlynn Carter. Hemsworth and Cyrus' divorce was finalized in January 2020 and Cyrus has since written songs “Slide Away,” “Midnight Sky,” and “Flowers” about their breakup.

Cyrus later discussed why she divorced Hemsworth in September 2023.

She revealed on her TikTok during her “Used to be Young” series that on June 30, 2019, she decided to divorce Hemsworth.

“Glastonbury was in June [2019], which was when the decision happened that me and Liam’s commitment to being married just really came from, of course, a place of love first, because we’d been together for 10 years, but also from a place of trauma and just trying to rebuild as quickly as we could,” she said. “The day of the show was the day I had decided it was no longer going to work in my life to be in that relationship.”

She still performed despite that: “So that was another moment where the work, the performance, the character came first. And I guess that’s why it’s now so important to me for that to not be the case, that the human comes first.”

Kaitlynn Carter

A selfie of Cyrus with Kaitlynn Carter on August 9 began rumors of romance. That same month, Carter split from husband Brody Jenner and Cyrus separated from Hemsworth. Entertainment Tonight published photos of the pair kissing on a yacht during an Italy vacation. Carter was also by Cyrus's side at the MTV VMAs, where she gave an emotional rendition of her song “Slide Away.”

On September 21, after about a month together, People reported that Cyrus and Carter had split, but were “still friends.” Carter later reflected on the romance in a November 2019 essay for ELLE, writing, "While it was short-lived, I’ll remain eternally grateful to my most recent relationship for opening my eyes to this unexplored part of myself, and for inspiring a new level of self-discovery and wonder at all the possibilities of life. The next month, Cyrus was spotted getting cozy with longtime friend Cody Simpson. Hemsworth unfollowed Cyrus on Instagram after she shared photos of herself and Simpson dancing in the Nashville home where they got married. After a sizable amount of Instagram PDA, couples Halloween costumes, and even a music video collaboration in quarantine, the couple called it quits 10 months later. On August 13, almost a year to the day since Hemsworth confirmed he and Cyrus split, it was reported that Cyrus and Simpson had broken up. Cyrus confirmed the report herself on Instagram Live. “It came out that me and my boyfriend have broken up. It was confirmed by a ‘reliable source’ even though no one is reliable in a relationship except the individuals who are participating in it,” she explained. “But right now, two halves can't make a whole, and we're individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age.”

Maxx Morando

Cyrus and Morando were first linked in 2021, when they appeared together at a Gucci fashion show in Los Angeles. Morando also supported Cyrus during the taping of Miley's New Year's Eve Party — they were also seen dancing together backstage. Early on in 2022, a source close to Cyrus confirmed that they were an item: “She's happily dating Maxx. It's official between them.”

Though they've kept their relationship “low-key,” Cyrus and Morando were last seen in October 2023 when she attended his band’s concert. Morando, a musician, is currently in the band Lilly, and he was previously a drummer for The Regrettes.
