Top Gun: Maverick has done exceptionally well at the box office and with critics, so it's no surprise that there are conversations happening about another sequel sooner rather than almost 40 years later.

Miles Teller, who plays Goose's (Anthony Edwards) son, Rooster, in Maverick, has said that he's been chatting about returning for more high-altitude fun with the leading man.

"I've been having some conversations with him [Tom Cruise] about it," he told Entertainment Tonight. "We'll see. That would be great, but that's all up to TC. It's all up to Tom."

Cruise explained before why the wait for the second Top Gun film was so long, stating: "Everywhere I went, people would be like: 'Do Top Gun', and I'm like: 'Guys, I don't know how to do it.'

"I don't know what the story is. I don't make movies just to make movies. I was like: 'Jerry [Bruckheimer], it's never going to happen'. I honestly never thought I would make it.

"We just started talking. And I realized that there were things that we could accomplish cinematically. And I started getting excited about this big challenge of 'How do we do it?' So I said to Jerry: 'I'll do it if…' meaning, I'm not going to do the CGI stuff."

Considering Maverick features Cruise and the rest of the main cast doing some incredible aerial stunts, as opposed to just him in the original, we're not sure if there's anything left for Cruise to want to achieve cinematically.

But the sequel was praised for not just copying the storyline of the original, so hopefully the writers can come up with another plot that entices Cruise back for more.
