  • Mike Johnson revealed if there’s anything ~romantic~ going on between him and Maurissa Gunn from Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor.

  • Mike said Maurissa reached out to him after Peter sent her home.

Attention Bachelor Nation! Mike Johnson is here to school everyone on his dating life and set the record straight on his recent “date” with Maurissa Gunn from Peter Weber’s season.

So last week, shortly after dozens of women announced they wanted a shot at love with Pilot Pete on The Bachelor, Maurissa/Miss Teen Montana was sent home. Not gonna lie, it was a total surprise when Peter didn’t hand her a rose since ABC spent so much time hyping her up. Anyway, it seems like she is totally unbothered by the whole thing and was already spotted with Mike from Hannah Brown’s season. (Remember: Peter’s season filmed months ago, and while we’re just now seeing the pictures, she and Mike had their rendezvous in November.)

Once Bachelor Nation and Mike stans saw this, everyone freaked out and was cracking jokes about how “Mike wasted no time” and applauded Maurissa for going after what she wants.

But when Cosmopolitan caught up with Mike as he partnered with Smirnoff and surprised a hoard of fans at a Bachelor watch party last night, he revealed what really went down and how he feels about people criticizing him for dating people in the spotlight. And anyone waiting to shoot their shot will be delighted to hear that their so-called date didn’t mean anything. Here’s his take:

“Maurissa just reached out to me because I had said on IG, ‘Hey, I’m gonna be in Atlanta.’ It was my dad’s birthday and he lives in Atlanta and so she reached out. I mean, when you’re a Bachelor alum, you want to show love and respect for each other. So she said, ‘Hey, I have a few questions about, you know, how to navigate this world now. Can you help me out?’ And so, as Bachelor alum, we show love for each other, you just want to be there for her.”

The same night, Mike really hammered home the “just friends” sentiment to Us Weekly and said, “That was not a date at all.”

And talking to Cosmo about dating in the spotlight and addressing those who say he’s clinging to Bachelor fame, Mike said, “They don’t know me at all....If you really watch me and watch my season with—you know, on the Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise—I’m not really about that. I’m with genuine, authentic relationships with people and that’s what that is."

Okay, so if I’m understanding everything correctly, what I’m getting from all this is that Mike isn’t faking anything and his DMs are most likely open.
