In the midst of the THC seltzer craze, this Milwaukee company is creating THC spirits

Goodland Extracts, a Milwaukee-based cannabis extracting company, is bringing something new to the local drinkable THC market with a line of THC spirits.

Its first release will be a botanical spirit with juniper, orange and ginseng, recommended as a replacement for gin in cocktails. It will be released to the public on June 21.

“There’s not many THC spirits out there, but there’s already established cocktail recipes out there. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel and you don’t have to make a bunch of new drinks,” said Ryan Pattee, co-owner at Goodland Extracts. “You can enjoy the taste of classic drinks sans alcohol."

The spirit is being made under the brand FlipSide Cannabis Spirit. Goodland Extracts plans to make other THC spirits, with a tequila and bourbon in the works.

The gin-like spirit has 2.5 milligrams of hemp-derived THC in one shot. It was made to swap out equally with gin, so one shot of FlipSide would equal one shot of alcohol.

“In our market research and what we’ve learned, 2.5 is very approachable,” Pattee said. “It varies by person, but you could have a few over the course of the night and feel good.”

Badger Liquor will distribute the product, meaning it will be available at local grocery stores.

Goodland Extracts has been extracting cannabinoids, like CBD and THC, from hemp since 2019. It has been making drinkable CBD and THC products since 2022.

Hemp-derived THC is not regulated by Wisconsin or the federal government. THC experts recommend reviewing certificates of analysis (COA) from a third party lab to determine the safety of a product.
