For five seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, we watched Miriam “Midge” Maisel's pursuit of stand-up comedy, waiting anxiously to see if she'd have the “big career” and “big life” that she yearned for. In the series finale, which began streaming on Prime Video on Friday, May 26, we finally got some answers.

But let's start at the beginning of the end: Our raven-haired leading-lady, played by the indomitable Rachel Brosnahan, finally gets her shot to be a guest on the Gordon Ford Show—or so she thinks. After much preparation, which includes her selecting a gorgeous black dress from Bergdorf Goodman’s, she discovers that her talk-show boss, Gordon Ford (Reid Scott), isn't going to let her do a stand-up set after all; instead, he plans to interview her on a stool about being the show's lone "lady writer." Turns out he was mad that his wife, Hedy (Nina Arianda), asked him to host Midge on the show at all, thus breaking his long held “no writers as guests" rule.

Midge is crestfallen. We are crestfallen! All of her people are gathered in the audience to see her—her parents, Abe and Rose (Tony Shalhoub and Marin Hinkle), her ex-mother-in-law, Shirley (Caroline Aaron), close friends Archie and Imogene, and her ex-husband, Joel (Michael Zegen). Abe and Rose, who couldn't hail a cab during rush hour to get to the TV station, even took a bus—probably for the first time in their lives as Upper West Side New Yorkers!

Midge did everything she could to make sure her loved ones were all there for her big break—and she was let down, yet again.

But during a commercial break before the last four minutes of her appearance, she spots the microphone, and she gets an idea. We get an idea. She whispers a bit of her plan to her manager, Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein), looking for approval for what's about to be an extremely bold move. Then she takes her shot, telling Gordon Ford that she's never been one to follow the rules and that she's not really a TV writer, but a stand-up comic. And then? She delivers the best four-minute set of her life. (Joel gave her permission to use their lives, including the break-up of their marriage, in the set.)

This is the moment we waited five seasons for, and it is BIG!

When she's finished, the uproarious applause confirms that her performance was the start of a thrilling new chapter—and that she's going to get the big career and big life she wanted. As viewers, we're left feeling exhilarated, not only for Mrs. Maisel, but for every one of us who's ever had a dream and given it everything we have to take our shot.

No, Joel and Midge do not get back together, but he's always there for her with a shoulder to lean on and to offer moral support, and that's how it should be.

How does The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel end?

The real love story of Mrs. Maisel is between Midge and Susie, so when it came time for the show's final scene, it was fitting that we got to see our two leading ladies in their respective, posh homes—oceans apart—getting ready to watch Jeopardy together. The now mature Susie is happily retired and surrounded by exotic birds, and an older Midge has a jam-packed show schedule after reaching the heights of fame in her very big show-biz career. But they still make sure to make quality time for each other. And they share some laughs like lifelong friends would!

Creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino repeatedly said that they aimed “to land the plane," referring to their Emmy-winning show's final season, and they have certainly done so. But as with all marvelously satisfying entertainment, they also left us wanting more. A movie, perhaps?
