Michelle Obama's New Show Is Coming to Instagram

Former first lady Michelle Obama is starting the year with a huge project, but it's coming to a very small screen. According to Forbes, Obama's new show, A Year of Firsts, will stream right on Instagram's IGTV. That means you won't need to download anything new to watch if you're already on the social media platform. The six-episode series will follow four college freshmen as they navigate their first year of school. They'll be bringing their stories from all corners of the United States — Washington, D.C.; North Dakota; California; and Alabama — and share their unique stories. The episodes will start to air in mid-January and be available through June.

"As a first-generation college student myself, I know how intimidating it can be to take that leap and pursue your educational dreams," Obama said in an official statement. "That's why I'm so proud of these students. By sharing their stories, they’re helping others see that the ups and downs of the first year of college are something everyone goes through — and they're creating a supportive community for others facing similar challenges."

The show is a joint project between Reach Higher, the Obamas' initiative that encourages students to pursue higher education, and media company ATTN:. The Obamas started Reach Higher in 2014 as a part of the Michelle's White House agenda as first lady.

Forbes adds that A Year of Firsts will look at a range of topics, from financial hardship to mental health and school-related stresses. It's just a small piece of the Obamas' plan, however. Back in 2018, she and former President Barack signed a deal with Netflix for movies and series. American Factory, their 2019 documentary, has been getting critical acclaim and could be nominated for awards this season.
