Barack Obama isn’t the only one in his family making some strong post-White House style moves. While the former POTUS was lauded last week for his Rag & Bone black “44” bomber jacket, Michelle Obama has been experimenting with bold, runway-ready looks of her own: a pair of gold thigh-high Balenciaga boots here, a sexy metallic Sachin & Babi jumpsuit for the Grammys there.
Even her manicure is getting into the mix.
To promote her memoir, Becoming, the former first lady devoted her Instagram Stories on Wednesday to answering questions from readers. She wore a classic black suit as she spoke about parenting and her career, but it was impossible to not be distracted by her bright blue nail polish as she gestured with her hands. Behold, the ultimate Blue State beauty move.
Obama’s bold nail polish choice isn’t completely out of left field. At the 2012 Democratic National Convention she lacquered up in a softer, blue-gray tone. And in November she named O.P.I.’s sky-blue “Dreams Need Clara-fication” shade as “one of my go-to nail colors.” She’s also wearing purple nail polish in her portrait at the National Portrait Gallery.
While the former FLOTUS cited exercise and sleep as her self-care essentials in the Q&A, it seems that working in a little pampering is also a priority.
“I always try to remember that I’ll be the best me that I can be if I prioritize myself,” she told fans.
