Michelle Obama and Rihanna Wear This Designer Brand That Retails for Thousands — Now Its Dresses Are Just $50
Carly Cushnie still believes in the hunt for the perfect dress. The designer of eponymous brand Cushnie told Vogue that the joy and confidence associated with that journey is one of the only things that’s remained the same even under today’s circumstances. But if you looked for a Cushnie dress a year ago, you’d only find one for over $1,000. Now you can get one for $50.
Cushnie’s affordable line is part of Target’s latest Designer Dress Collection, which also includes Love Shack Fancy and Lisa Marie Fernandez. And while Lisa Marie Fernandez and Love Shack Fancy have equally large celeb fan bases as Cushnie, neither has been worn as frequently on the red carpet.
For years, Cushnie could be found at White House galas, Fenty Beauty release parties and music video sets. Michelle Obama, Rihanna and Selena Gomez have worn the brand’s body-flattering dresses for years. And we’ve had to admire the perfect bright colors and silhouettes from the sidelines. So close, but so far. Our wallets cried. We guarded our budgets. But now we can finally participate and it’ll only cost $50. Sixty dollars if we’re feeling really wild. Sizing also goes up to 22W.

And, now more than ever, we need to not only support Black-owned businesses, but start making a more conscious effort to support, shop, and wear black designers always.
If Cushie’s prices have been out of your price range before, then this Target collection is a great place to start. Especially since Cushnie’s hope was that this launch would help her designs reach a wider audience than ever before. Not everyone needs a dress for a gala but all of us are looking forward to eventually going to a non-socially distanced party, wedding, or formal at some point in hopefully the near future. This Cushnie two-tone slip dress is perfect for just that. And to make things even better, it actually looks like the one Rihanna wore, except approximately $1,000 less expensive.
