Michelle Obama Continues to Show off Her Shoulders Post Presidency

    Maggie Parker
    May 8, 2017

Michelle Obama’s lifestyle has changed drastically since she left the White House, but her taste in clothing? Not so much. Sunday night, she joined her husband, President Barack Obama, as he was presented with the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation’s “Profile in Courage” Award, in a stunning one-shoulder royal blue dress.

The former president took the stage to receive the award, and she stood by his side in the gorgeous sheath dress that clung to her curves. Her left shoulder was bare and a cape-like draping covered her right shoulder. The neckline was asymmetrical. She wore matching dangling earrings, and her hair half up.

This is a style Michelle clearly loves and knows well; she always returned to it during her time in the White House. It all started at her first inaugural ball in 2009, to which she wore the unforgettable white chiffon one-shoulder Jason Woo gown.

She continued showing her love of the look in 2010, when she wore a stunning royal blue one-shoulder gown by Peter Soronen to the state dinner for Mexico. The following year she wore a similar one-shoulder gown in purple by doo . Ri for the South Korea state dinner. She clearly liked the look for state dinners, as she wore it again in an off-white Naeem Kham ballgown for the 2016 state dinner for Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.

What all those dresses had in common was that the one shoulder was sleeveless. This time, however, her one sleeve was long and flowing. Maybe it’s the post-presidency style.
