Michelle and Barack Obama Pen Tributes for Family's Personal Chef Who Died in Tragic Accident

The Obamas are paying tribute to late chef Tafari Campbell on social media following his tragic death.
On Aug. 3, President Barack Obama shared a photo of himself with Campbell and his wife Sherise, along with one of the culinary artist smiling while showing off his stunning creations.
"Tafari Campbell showed us what true character looks like. He believed that actions speak louder than words. And he used his immense gifts to bring people together, provide comfort, and spread joy. I’ll miss him every day," wrote the former president.
Michelle Obama also shared her own tribute, paired with a photo of herself and her husband smiling while posing with the chef at the White House. "I will miss my friend, Tafari...the emptiness is hard. But I promise to stay strong, keep living, and honor your legacy in every way possible. Rest in peace, my brother," wrote the former first lady.
The 45-year-old died while paddleboarding near the Obama family's Martha's Vineyard home. He is believed to have drowned after struggling to keep his balance on the board, according to authorities.
The family had previously shared a joint statement when the heartbreaking news of Campbell's death was announced on July 24.
"Tafari was a beloved part of our family. When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House – creative and passionate about food, and its ability to bring people together. In the years that followed, we got to know him as a warm, fun, extraordinarily kind person who made all of our lives a little brighter," they said in their statement.
It continued, "That's why, when we were getting ready to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. He’s been part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he’s gone. Today we join everyone who knew and loved Tafari – especially his wife Sherise and their twin boys, Xavier and Savin – in grieving the loss of a truly wonderful man."
Campbell was previously a White House chef and was asked to continue working with the family after the end of Obama's presidency, starting in 2017.
