Back in October, fans of Good Morning America were told that host Michael Strahan was stepping away from his job in order to take care of then-undisclosed reasons involving his family. Now, his GMA family has learned what Michael, and his family, have been going through.

During a January 11 taping of the ABC morning show, the TV personality revealed that his daughter Isabella (who he shares with ex-wife Jean Muggli) is undergoing treatment for medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor found in the cerebellum, at the base of the skull. As Isabella sat alongside her dad, the duo shared with Robin Roberts that they learned about her health condition in early October. She eventually went through emergency surgery on October 27, leading for Michael to take time off from work in order to be there for her.

"I literally think that, in a lot of ways, I'm the luckiest man in the world, because I've got an amazing daughter," he emotionally shared. "I know she's going through it, but I know that we're never given more than we can handle and that she is going to crush this."

As for how Isabella is doing, the college student shared that she will be starting chemotherapy in February at the Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center in Durham, North Carolina. She shared that while she's "feeling good" amid the unexpected health journey, she feels ready to get back to normal life and be grateful for what life has given her.

"I'm ready for it to start and be one day closer to being over," she added. "I'm very excited for this whole process to wrap. But you just have to keep living every day, I think, through the whole thing."

Shortly after GMA broke the news, Michael went on Instagram to voice his love for Isabella as she continues healing. Upon seeing the sentimental post, fans immediately swarmed Michael with words of support for his daughter.

"What a strong young lady with an incredible support system. You’ve got this Isabella!" one person wrote on Instagram. "Praying for your daughter and your family. She is a brave, beautiful, young lady. Sending love and healing energy!," another added. "Like father, like daughter … you’re both truly inspirational and brave," a different follower agreed.

The Mayo Clinic states that medulloblastoma is a cancerous brain tumor commonly found in children in the cerebellum, which affects muscle coordination, balance and movement. While the tumor doesn't normally go to other parts of the body, it can spread through the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. As for how to treat medulloblastoma, the center notes the diagnosis usually leads to surgery with radiation and/or chemotherapy.
