Michael Phelps’ Son, Boomer, Makes Red-Carpet Debut and Takes Swimming Lesson
Boomer Phelps is an Olympic star in the making at only 7 months old.
Decorated Olympian Michael Phelps shared his son’s swimming lesson during a Facebook Live post today in his hometown of Baltimore, where the youngster joined other tots in the pool. Nicole Johnson Phelps — Michael’s wife and mother to their son — helped the toddler make a splash in the water.
So far, it has been Boomer’s third “real lesson” in the water, but he’s acclimating.
“He’s getting so much better,” the Under Armour athlete said in the video while filming his budding swimmer. “This is a ‘get wet’ class, so he’s feeling the water out more.”
“I can’t tell you how much better he’s getting in the water,” Michael continued, “but he’s getting his start right now. The other day he fell asleep in the water. Now he seems to be awake in the morning, but we’ll see how long that lasts.”
A fan asked Phelps if he planned on participating in the next Olympics. “Honestly, no,” he responded.
Michael — the most decorated Olympian of all time with 28 medals (23 gold, three silver, two bronze) — and Johnson recently announced that they secretly married ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio.
The family appeared at the Golden Goggle Awards on Nov. 21 in New York City, where Boomer made his red-carpet debut. Michael was honored for the third consecutive time as the Athlete of the Year at the USA Swimming organization’s annual ceremony.
For the occasion, Boomer rocked a pair of Freshly Picked moccasins. The soft-soled leather shoes, retailing for $60 online, feature elastic at the opening to help secure the fit to the child’s foot.
