Michael Cera Set to Star in Wes Anderson's Next Movie

No rest for the weary! Wes Anderson may be in the thick of an awards campaign for his latest feature film Asteroid City, which debuted this summer, AND the launch of four Roald Dahl short films on Netflix, but that hasn't stopped him from working on his next movie. In an interview with Deadline, the Grand Budapest Hotel director stated, "Before the Writer’s Guild strike began, we had just finished a script. Roman Coppola and I had been working on a script." This would be Anderson's 12th feature film and the sixth time he's worked with Coppola.
In addition to having a script locked and loaded for the post-strike landscape, Anderson already has some of the cast picked out. First he mentioned Oscar winner Benicio del Toro saying, "When the time is right again, we’ve got a movie to make with Benicio Del Toro." Later Anderson added, "We have Michael Cera. He’s one of the other characters in this new story."

While Anderson confirmed that he and Romon Coppola have finished a script for a new film, the release date is still to be determined. Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the film wouldn't be able to begin pre-production in the near future, which means a late 2024 premiere would be the fastest it could hit theaters. Most likely this film won't debut until 2025 or 2026.
