Michael Caine is rolling the final credits on his iconic acting career.

The legendary English actor officially announced this week that he has taken his final bow when it comes to the big screen.

"I keep saying I'm going to retire. Well, I am now," Caine, 90, told BBC Radio 4’s Today show in a conversation published on Saturday, Oct. 14.

"I've figured, I've had a picture where I've played the lead and it's got incredible reviews. The only parts I’m likely to get now are old men," the Oscar-winning film star explained. "And I thought, well I might as well leave with all this—what have I got to do to beat this?”

Caine, who has been starring in movies since the 1960s, will be calling it a wrap with his latest—and now final—big-screen film The Great Escaper, which made its theatrical release in the UK on Oct. 6.

Throughout his impressive career, Caine has garnered a number of accolades, including two Academy Awards in the Best Supporting Actor category for his roles as Elliot in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), as well as Dr. Wilbur Larch in The Cider House Rules (1999.)

Plus, Caine is known for delivering a notable performance in The Dark Knight trilogy—featuring Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012)—in which he starred as Alfred Pennyworth alongside Christian Bale's Batman, aka Bruce Wayne.

More of his film credits include 1964's Zulu, 1966's Alfie, 1980's Dressed to Kill, 2006's Prestige, and many, many more.

Caine takes his final bow in The Great Escaper, currently playing in theaters in the UK.
