Micaela Erlanger Celebrates Her Stylish First Book, How to Accessorize

“She lives it, she breathes it, [and] she shares it with her clients,” said actress Lupita Nyong’o of her friend and stylist Micaela Erlanger’s commitment to fashion. The celebrity stylist was feted by shoe label Schutz and some of her famous coterie last night at the Gramercy Park Hotel on the release of her first book, How to Accessorize. “It’s two years in the making,” beamed Erlanger in a sequined minidress, visibly excited to share her knowledge.

“She equips you with information and a perspective that is well informed, but allows you to express yourself at the same time,” said Nyong’o, who worked with Erlanger throughout her recent Black Panther press tour and on her Oscars dress. “It was just astounding,” added Nyong’o about her custom black and gold Versace dress. “They made that chain mail look like skin. It’s very collaborative and we’re all in there to create the vision.” It starts with Erlanger, whose approach is direct yet effervescent. “I like that she’s fun and bold and very practical,” said Alex Michail, COO of Schutz. But what accessories does Erlanger consider key on a daily basis? “A fabulous shoe,” she said, “something that just really pulls your look together. A statement bag and sunglasses.”
