Miami-inspired cocktail lounge with a ‘tropical vibe’ coming to South End. What to expect.

Another cocktail bar is joining the lineup of nightlife spots in South End.

Built on Hospitality group, the team behind The GoodYear House, Scratch House Kitchen and Old Town Kitchen and Cocktails, is bringing another concept to Charlotte: Folia.

Pulling inspiration from Miami and other spots in South Florida, Folia — which means ‘plant — will be designed with a “lush tropical vibe.”

Nestled next to Wooden Robot, VINYL and PIE.ZAA, the new bar — located in the space formerly home to KM Salon — is going to be designed like other cocktail bars in Miami.

Despite a convincing April Fools Instagram post, it won’t be part plant shop, but the lounge will be filled with a lot of foliage and artwork, as first reported by Eater Carolinas. It will offer a variety of drinks and small “elevated snacks” from popular mixologist Bob Peters and chef Chris Coleman.

“The space itself is going to be a little bit more refined than your typical cocktail bar, but we’re not building a nightclub. We’re building, kind of, a cocktail lounge,” Coleman told CharlotteFive.

“We’ve been eyeing South End for a while and knew that if something came up that felt right for us, we would jump on it.”

With other concepts in NoDa, uptown and even across state lines in Rock Hill, Coleman said the team is excited to branch out into South End, alongside other local hot spots drawing people to the area.

“South End, it’s the hottest neighborhood in Charlotte,” Coleman said. “We also saw a real need. You know, South End is a really cool area and there’s a lot of bars already there … and we’re trying to build something that’s a little more sophisticated, a little more elevated for folks who have maybe aged out of the ‘party scene,’ the club scene’ but still like to go out and have a good time.”

An opening date has yet to be announced, but Folia is expected to open sometime this summer in June or July.
