Mexico City's Hotel Scene Has Never Been Better — Here Are 4 New Hotels to Check Out

In Mexico City's sophisticated Polanco neighborhood, these new properties are rising above the rest.

Mexico City is one of Travel + Leisure readers' favorite cities (this year, it ranked sixth in our annual World's Best Awards). Every year brings more exciting hotel openings — and these four new properties in the sophisticated Polanco neighborhood are the ones to know about right now.

Campos Polanco

The apartment-style Campos Polanco is meant for gathering. Guests can reserve the rooftop terrace, library, salon, or a co-working space called El Estudio, for meetings or cocktail parties; there’s also a lounge and patio available for impromptu coffees or drinks. This project comes from the Mosaic Hotel Group — responsible for four hotels in northern California, including the Madrona and the North Block Hotel — which furnished the 12 suites with writing desks, midcentury modern sofas, and Baja ceramics, while preserving original details like bronze stair rails.

Alest Hotel

Mexico City native Sofía Aspe infused a British aesthetic into the Alest Hotel, a 19-key property on a quiet residential street, with elements like delicate botanical murals, wainscoting, and Carrara marble in the lobby and bathrooms. There’s also a handsome lobby bookcase, where you can browse Aspe’s Interior Design.

Casa Polanco

A striking slab of jade marble covers the lobby floor of Casa Polanco and proceeds to climb the staircase like ivy. Irish masons harvested the stone, Italian artisans polished it to a mossy glow, and Mexican architect Miguel Vives supervised its careful installation at this 1940s estate, where the color of the floor creates a spiritual bridge to the leafy Parque Lincoln across the street. By contrast, the 19 minimalist white rooms feature herringbone floors with Juliet balconies or terraces; the property, which opened in June, also has a library and spa.

Utopic Campos Elíseos

Short-term-rental specialist ULIV took a big swing with Utopic Campos Elíseos, a former mansion that has been converted into six suites that can be booked individually or as a buyout. Features include a bar and lounge, stained-glass windows, and a showstopping Rococo fireplace. Pop art, neon, and graffiti abound. The word agape — referencing the highest form of love, according to the ancient Greeks — is even spray-painted across a wall in the billiard room.
